The film "STEAMBOY," released in theaters in 2004, was the first feature-length animated film since "AKIRA," conceived, written, and directed by Otomo Katsuhiro. From planning to release, it took a full 10 years to produce this film, and this book is the first of two volumes that compile the vast amount of storyboards by Otomo himself. When the film was released, the Young Magazine editorial department published "STEAMBOY Storyboard Collection" as a single, extra-thick 780-page hardcover book, but it quickly became a rare item and has since become a highly sought-after book. This time, it has been reprinted in two volumes, enlarged from its A5 size to the size of Otomo's complete works.

The second of the expanded reprinted Steamboy Storyboards, expanded from its original A5 size to the size of Otomo's complete works. In addition to the latter half of the film, which consists of six parts (A, B, C, D, E1, and E2) (all of Parts D, E1, and E2), this volume also includes storyboards from alternate versions and the pilot film. Additionally, approximately 60 pages of previously unreleased and never-before-published storyboard sketches have been added, making this a massive volume of nearly 500 pages. The author's latest commentary is also included at the end of the book. This book is not only a resource that elucidates the structure of the animation known as "STEAMBOY," but can also be said to be another main part of "STEAMBOY" that can be read in paper form.
